LG Marrei 'tell me something'
While Wonju DB's scary surge at the beginning of the season shook the professional basketball world, Changwon LG's momentum has been soaring lately. The team won its third "twin brother head coaching matchup" of the season against the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis, extending its winning streak to six games.
LG won a tightly contested 88-80 victory over Hyundai Mobis in the 2023-2024 regular season away game at Dongcheon Gymnasium in Ulsan on Nov. 11. With the win, second-ranked LG extended its winning streak to six games and improved to 15 wins (5 losses) on the season, moving within two games of leader DB (17-3). Hyundai Mobis, with a 9-11 record, moved into a tie for fifth place with Anyang Chungkwanjang.
With Cho Sang-hyun at the helm for the second season, LG is a completely different team than before. After finishing second in the regular season last year and qualifying directly for the four-way playoffs, they've continued their momentum this season and are looking to go even higher. After a shaky start to the season with three straight losses, they have since turned things around with a fearsome 15-2 record in 17 games. This includes a 91-70, 21-point win over DB on the last two days. The only opponent DB has lost to by double digits since the start of the season is LG.
The game also featured a matchup between the twin brothers of Hyundai Mobis head coach Cho Sang-hyun and his younger brother, Cho Dong-hyun. In the first matchup of the season, the younger coach laughed, but in the second matchup, the older coach won the tie.
The third matchup, which the older brother won again, was decided in the final minute of the fourth quarter. Holding a slim 81-79 lead, LG took an 84-79 lead when Yang Hong-seok's three-pointer hit the rim with 49.1 seconds left in the game. After Hyundai Mobis' Kim Kook-chan missed both of his foul free throws, Lee Kwan-hee scored two points on LG's next 토토 possession to make it a seven-point game. Hyundai Mobis' Ham Ji-hoon made 1 of 2 free throws to cut the gap to 6 points, but Yang Hong-seok answered with a fastbreak layup to close out the game.
LG was dominated under the basket by Asem Marei with a huge 22-point, 22-rebound performance, supported by Yang Hong-seok (19 points, 9 rebounds) and Lee Jae-do (15 points). Hyundai Mobis was led by Gage Prim and Park Mubin with 19 points apiece.
