Men's volleyball Woori Card chases down No. 1 Korean Air

Woori Card is aiming for the top spot in the regular season after defeating KEPCO.

Woori Card swept the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League Men's Division 3-0 (25-19 25-19 27-25) at home against KEPCO at Jangchung Gymnasium on Sunday.

With a 21-11 record (63 points) on the season, the second-ranked Woori Card overtook first-place Korean Air (22-11, 67 points). Woori Card will be looking for its second consecutive regular season title.

Woori Card also improved to 5-1 against KEPCO this season.

Woori Card foreign players Issei (19 points), Artem (17 points), and Song Myung-geun (13 points) led the offense. The wing offensive line dominated the Korean offense with setter Han Tae-joon's steady ball distribution.

With its third straight loss, No. 4 KEPCO (16-17, 47 points) failed to close the gap on third-place OK Financial Group (18-14, 52 points). With three games left in the season, KEPCO will need to either reclaim the top spot or close the gap to within three points of third place if they want to make it to Spring Volleyball.

KEPCO's Tice (17 points), Seo Jae-duk (11 points), and Lim Sung-jin (10 points) combined for the win, but it wasn't enough to prevent the loss.

Woori Card was down 9-10 in the first set, but Song Myung-geun, Artem, and Issei battled back to make it 13-10. They then scored four straight points, 안전놀이터 including a quick opener from Artem at 15-15, to take the lead for good.

Artem scored nine points in the first set to take control.

In the second set, Issei was on fire. Issei went on a tear, scoring 10 points in the second set alone to help URICARD take the set 2-0.

With the momentum in their favor, Woori Card took a 6-3 lead early in the third set thanks to Artem and Lee Sang-hyun. Artem and Issei then led the way for the rest of the game. However, they gave up a deuce in the final game.

Woori Card made match point at 25-25 with a valuable open attack from Artem, but Song Myung-geun's brilliant block ended the match.

Chung Kwan-jang succeeds in hunting the 'big fish' again

In the women's event, Jung Kwan-jang won a hard-fought 3-2 (23-25 25-15 16-25 25-19 15-10) victory over Hyundai E&C at Suwon Gymnasium.

Pajuk's sixth consecutive victory extended their winning streak to 19 matches (14 wins, 58 points) and widened their lead over fourth-place GS Caltex (17 wins, 15 losses, 48 points).

If Jungkwanjang, who are chasing third place in the regular season, can increase their lead over fourth-place GS Caltex by at least four points, they will go straight to the playoffs, bypassing the semifinals.

Jia (31 points) and Mega (29 points) combined for a whopping 60 points in the win. Both players boasted an offensive success rate of over 50 percent. Lee So-young added 14 points in the win.

Jung Kwan-jang, who had defeated Heungkuk Saengseng on March 24, also stopped Hyundai E&C's run to the top of the regular season standings.

Hyundai E&C (24-8, 73 points) failed to close the gap on Heungkuk Life (25-7, 70 points) and came within striking distance.

Hyundai E&C's Joo Po Moma (44 points) and Yang Hyo-jin (12 points) split time, but a lack of late-game heart cost them.

Moma's 44 points was a new career-high for her in a single game.
