'Seoul Series' wraps up for Dodgers' Roberts-SD Schildt

Managers from both teams are pleased with how the Seoul Series ended.

The San Diego Padres won Game 1 of the MLB World Tour Seoul Series 2024 against the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 21 at Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul, South Korea.

San Diego won the series 15-11. After a 5-2 come-from-behind win in the opening game, the Dodgers and Padres split the two-game series in Seoul. The two teams, who arrived in the country on Aug. 15, have now completed their schedules in South Korea.

After wrapping up the Seoul series with a win in Game 2, San Diego head coach Mike Schildt expressed his gratitude to Korea in his final official press conference.

"It was great to play in Korea, and I'm grateful to Korea," he said. "They made us feel welcome in Seoul, and we were able to play a good game. There were a lot of things that happened, but we were able to play well. Special thanks to the staff in the dugout, clubhouse, and everyone who helped us on our trip to Korea."

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was also pleased with the series in Seoul. "It was a great experience to play in Korea," Roberts said, "and I think it's a plus for us going into the season." "We came away with a win and San Diego came away with a win, and we all got to go back to the States without any major injuries," Roberts said, adding, "I think the series was a great way for Major League Baseball to become more popular in Korea."

The two teams had a busy week in Korea. The teams arrived in the country on Sept. 15 and played two exhibition games on Sept. 17 and 18. The Dodgers played the Kiwoom Heroes on July 17 and Team Korea on July 18, while San Diego played Team Korea on July 17 and the LG Twins on July 18. Both teams went undefeated in their exhibition games.

There was a man throwing eggs at Roberts at the Dodgers' arrival gate, and an email threatening to bomb the Gocheok Dome on Opening Day. And on the 21st, Dodgers superstar Shohei Otani's interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, was fired for illegal sports gambling and stealing money from Otani.

While there were several incidents, most of them ended in a "happy ending," and the first-ever Major League Baseball series in South Korea was a success. The two teams will now return to the United States to play the 2024 regular season.
