Park Ji-Soo's first double-double of the season
Park Ji-soo scored 37 points and grabbed 20 rebounds as Cheongju KB evened the best-of-five championship series of the 2023-2024 women's basketball season.
The defending regular-season champions won 64-60 at home against Asan Woori Bank in Game 2 of the Woori Bank WON 2023-2024 Women's Professional Basketball Championship at Cheongju Gymnasium in Chungcheongbuk-do on Saturday.
KB, which suffered its first home loss of the season in Game 1, evened its championship series record at 1-1 with the win.
The two teams will return to Asan Sunshin Gymnasium in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, for Game 3 at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28.
In the first quarter, KB, which seemed to be racking up points with ease by utilizing Park Ji-su, the reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the first through fifth rounds of this season, fell victim to Woori Bank's "Park Ji-su pullout operation" and went into halftime trailing 34-36.
Despite being heavily scrutinized, Park managed to record 20 points and 10 rebounds in the first half alone, his ninth consecutive double-double in the championship game and the most double-doubles in a championship game in history (14). The previous record was held by Chung Sun-min with 13.
In the third quarter, KB tied the game on a three-pointer by Heo Ye-eun and a layup by Park Ji-soo, and took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Kang Yi-eul at the end of the third quarter to make it 47-45.
KB opened the fourth quarter with a pair of baskets from Park Ji-soo and Lee Yoon-mi to extend the lead to seven points.
Woori Bank's relentless offense gave up three-pointers by Choi Yi-sam with 3:27 to play and Park Hye-jin with 2:40 to play, but Park tied the game with a three-pointer of her own.
KB tied the game with two free throws by Heo Ye-eun with 1:14 left in regulation. With 25.7 seconds left in regulation, Park sealed the victory with a layup.
Park finished with 37 points and 20 rebounds, setting a new record for most points in a single game in a championship game (previously 30).
He also became the first player in the history of the championship to achieve the 30 (points)-20 (rebounds) record in a single game.
For Woori Bank, Kim Dan-bi had a triple-double performance with 25 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, but it was overshadowed by the team's loss.
