Kim Kwang-hyun escapes 'twin nightmare', wins 9 time SSG catches LG, escapes 3-game losing streak
SSG Landers of professional baseball escaped a three-game losing streak with the great pitching of 'eternal ace' Kwang-hyun Kim.
SSG won 4-2 in an away game against LG Twins in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 5th.
Kim Gwang-hyun, who had recently lost four straight games against LG and had a poor performance with three losses and an ERA of 11.50 in four games against LG this season before the game, finally lived up to his reputation with six innings, 103 pitches, five hits, four walks, six strikeouts, and two runs (one earned run).
Kim Gwang-hyun, who had been sluggish with 2 wins, 4 losses, and an ERA of 6.55 in 9 games in the second half of the season, succeeded in his 12th quality start (6 or more innings as a starter, allowing 3 or fewer earned runs) this season and led the team to victory.
The SSG batting lineup did not miss the opponent's error in the top of the first inning and scored 3 runs, taking some of the burden off Kwang-Hyun Kim's shoulders.
SSG opened the scoring with a leadoff triple to right field from leadoff hitter Choo Shin-soo, and then hitter Jung Jun-jae easily scored the first run with a center hit.
With runners on 3rd and 2nd base, Go Myeong-jun hit a routine ground ball to the shortstop, but LG shortstop Oh Ji-hwan committed an error, allowing the runner on 3rd base to score.
Lee Ji-young then hit a 1-RBI single to make the score 3-0.
In the top of the 4th, Choo Shin-soo's RBI hit added another run.
LG has not been able to show off a refreshing offensive performance against Kwang-Hyun Kim even though runners have been on base consistently.
LG, which scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning on Kim Hyun-soo's timely hit, only managed to score one run in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs and bases loaded due to an opposing team's error.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, with 2 outs and a runner on 2nd base, Choi Won-young struck out, and Kim Gwang-hyun, who had completed his mission, celebrated his quality start with a roar.
